Washington packaging EPR: getting supplier data ready

Washington packaging EPR (SB 5284, 2025) applies to brands that sell packaged products into Washington, and with CAA’s early fee schedule for 2027 already published, supplier packaging data is worth gathering now.

Washington packaging EPR: supplier data to collect now

The simplified report was a first step. Early fees and the full program both ask more of your packaging records, so build them once at component level.

  • Material, layers and coatings

The base material and every coating, laminate or added layer, named precisely enough that two people would classify the component the same way.

  • Weight per component

A weight from each supplier’s own spec, in one unit, so Washington figures can be compared with your other states.

  • Recycled content

A recycled content declaration per component, and a note where a supplier has not provided one.

  • Units supplied into Washington

Volume of each item shipped into the state, so component records can be rolled up into a Washington total.

  • A reusable record

Washington is one of several CAA states. Keep each component’s data in a form that can be reused for the next state instead of collected again.

Early fees for 2027 are already on a published schedule, and the full program follows by 2030. Records built to component level now will carry through both stages.

Where Washington teams get stuck

  • Summary figures without detail

Totals were enough for the simplified report. Moving to the early fee schedule means component-level records, and the gaps show up there.

  • Weights quoted loosely

A supplier gives an approximate weight or a range, and nobody records which it was.

  • Coatings that go unnamed

A component is listed as paper or plastic with no mention of what is on its surface.

  • Multi-material parts

Parts built from several materials come back as one line, and the split is lost.

  • Specs that quietly age

A spec in the folder predates a supplier or packaging change, and the data feeding Washington is out of date.

How ZeeHub helps with Washington supplier data

  1. Request by email

ZeeHub’s AI agent emails each supplier for the component data Washington needs. There is no supplier portal, so replies arrive as the PDFs and spreadsheets suppliers already use.

  2. Read and structure

Material, coatings, weight and recycled content are read out of those documents into one record per component.

  3. Flag and compare

Each record is checked against your specs, and missing or mismatched values are flagged for your team.

  4. Follow up

Suppliers that have not replied, or replied incompletely, are chased automatically.

  5. Export

Component-level data is exported for your PRO filing or spec system, and the same record can be reused for other states.
